Elevating Cannabis -December News From RX-C

Member Mingle

Because we know how busy December can be for so many, we have decided to postpone our popular Member Mingle until after the first of the year. Mark your calendars now for January 26, 2017 when we’ll resume our usual third Thursday of each month Member Mingle.

Toys for Tots

Now, through December 9, we’ll be collecting Toys for Tots. It’s easy to help make Christmas brighter for struggling families. And at RX-C it’s easy to participate; just give an unwrapped toy to one of our Drivers or bring it to your next Appt or Grab n Go. We’ll be collecting the toys until Friday, December 9.

Give the joy of Christmas, donate a toy today.

The One Minute Cannabist

We are pleased to announce the launch of the first in a series of books designed to make it easy for those new to medicinal cannabis.

One Minute Cannabist

The One Minute Cannabist was written by seniors, for seniors looking to understand and navigate the world of medicinal cannabis. There is wealth of information available for people who are new to cannabis and it can be quite overwhelming.

Written in easy to understand, digestible chapters that can be read quickly and used as a guide to return to as often as needed, it’s a perfect primer for those new to the world and a great reference for anyone already in the know. It also makes a great gift for someone who is thinking about exploring this world, but hasn’t taken the first step yet.

We LOVE and THANK our Veterans

November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” One year later, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”

Today, we celebrate November 11 as Veterans Day. A day to reflect on and thank all those who have served.

RX-C gratefully THANKS and SALUTES the men and women (and their families) who have served our country.

Be Elevated.

The Prop 64 Conundrum

Despite the fact that California has lagged with respect to legalization for medical or recreational use of cannabis, Prop 64 is a major initiative for the state. All eyes will be watching what happens here as it will have impact across the nation. If you’ve read your voter information guide, you know there are some really ridiculous arguments against legalization. While Prop 64 is about legalization for adult recreational use, there is language that will have a major impact on medical cannabis in the state. And, as usual there is much misinformation, such as the statement that there will be no taxation of medicinal cannabis. There will be big changes (see below). While lengthy, we strongly urge you to read and understand the full initiative.

As you make your personal decision on which way you will vote, please pay particular attention to these facets of the law.

What Happens Recreational Medical
Limits on # of plants that can be legally grown Maximum of 6 per adult Prop 215 Rules stay in force
Public Use of Cannabis Not allowed, imposes $100 fine Not allowed, imposes $100 fine
Allows for onsite consumption at licensed outlets Yes No
Prohibits dispensaries from offering FREE cannabis products Yes Yes
New Excise Tax 15% on all products 15% on all products
State Sales Tax Defined by district Defined by district —If a patient obtains a state ID card (in addition to the doctor recommendation), then the state sales tax only will be exempt, but the excise tax will still apply
Local Taxation Local govt’s could impose additional taxes Local govt’s could impose additional taxes
State ID system protects privacy No Yes
Parental protection from CPS charges No Yes

Below are some of the questions we are hearing and our position in general:

What will happen to RX-C if cannabis becomes legal?
Regardless of the status of Prop 64, we intend to stay strictly in the medicinal cannabis business. Sadly, the changes that will most affect our business will primarily revolve around increased costs due to the taxation that will be incurred at every stage of the business: from the grower, to the distributor, to the wholesaler and ultimately to the consumer.

If Prop 64 passes will I still need a medical marijuana recommendation?
Yes, if you want to continue to receive medicinal cannabis from RX-C. While the law would go into effect immediately, making it legal for adults to grow up to 6 plants in a private enclosed space for their own personal use, it will take until 2018 for the full licensing, regulatory bodies, distribution networks and retail locations to be put into place.

What will change in terms of taxation and when will it take effect?
RX-C will continue to abide by all the rules and regulations of Prop 215/SB 420 and the MMRSA bills 266, 243 & 643 which will be fully in effect by 2018. In the meantime, it will be business as usual, which is that we collect and pay the state sales tax to the SBOE. We will keep our members informed as changes begin to take shape throughout 2017.

How should I vote on Prop 64
As stated, we see good and bad in this initiative. We encourage members to make an informed decision by fully studying the language and voting in the way that makes you most comfortable. To be honest, we are still all on the fence.

DEA Continues To Say No

After all the hype, anticipation and speculation the past couple months, we are quite disappointed with the news this morning. It is another vicious circle of argument that goes absolutely nowhere toward furthering the research that does need to be done in order to learn and get the research we need to substantiate what we already know, that cannabis does indeed have medicinal value.

Despite the federal governments negative position, we at RX-C will continue to operate within the laws established in 1996 for the people in the state of California and do our very best to continue to elevate cannabis awareness. Read full article.
